We plan to invest in a structural steel production line to supply local large-scale infrastructure projects. Can your production line simultaneously produce multiple types of profiles, such as H-beams
Yes, SMG GROUP’s Section Steel Rolling Mill employs a highly flexible Universal Mill design. With just a simple, quick roll-change operation, the same production line can seamlessly switch between producing H-beams, I-beams, angle steel, and channel steel, enabling you to meet the diverse demands of the local infrastructure market at the lowest possible investment cost.
If we first invest in a rebar production line with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons, could we directly upgrade it to 600,000 tons in the next few years if market conditions improve?
Absolutely. When we design the EPC plant layout, we will reserve space for equipment upgrades—for example, by providing预留 for roughing mill stands and designing extended cooling beds. In the future, you can double your production capacity without rebuilding the plant by simply adding a few stands and upgrading the drive motors.
We want to capitalize on the local infrastructure boom by investing in a hot-rolling line. Between rebar and wire rod production lines, which one offers a higher return on investment?
This depends on local market supply and demand. Rebar is a basic necessity, with rapid start-up and high sales volume; wire rod, on the other hand, has slightly higher added value and can be extended downstream to produce fasteners or be used for wire drawing. SMG GROUP can provide you with a turnkey solution for a “Bar and Wire Rod Mill,” where a single production line can flexibly switch between the two products, maximizing your risk resilience and profitability.
I don’t want to subcontract to several companies. Can SMG GROUP undertake the EPC general contracting for the entire steelmaking shop (Melt Shop)?
Absolutely. SMG GROUP offers turnkey projects for a “complete steelmaking workshop,” including electric arc furnaces/medium-frequency furnaces, LF refining furnaces, continuous casting machines, and associated water treatment and dust removal systems. All plant equipment is uniformly designed and integrated by us.
Can SMG GROUP provide equipment for high-value-added flat products (galvanized sheet)?
Yes, SMG GROUP provides complete downstream solutions, including high-precision cold rolling mills, continuous galvanizing lines (CGL), and color coating lines. Our automation systems ensure extremely precise thickness control and flawless surface finish, meeting both architectural and automotive-grade requirements.
Our electric arc furnace is planned to use 80% direct reduced iron (DRI) and 20% scrap steel. Does your EAF support continuous charging?
Fully supported. To meet the smelting requirements of high‑DRI ratios, our EAF is equipped with an advanced continuous charging system and an ultra‑high‑power (UHP) transformer. By optimizing the molten pool depth and the electrode adjustment system, it can maintain exceptionally high smelting efficiency and arc stability even when cold or hot DRI is continuously charged.
We plan to invest in a several-hundred-thousand-ton mini mill in Africa. With a limited budget, which companies can undertake such an EPC turnkey project? Should I choose an electric arc furnace (EAF)
SMG GROUP is a metallurgical EPC company. This depends on your target product and the local power grid. If your region has abundant scrap steel resources and you only produce standard construction rebar, an induction furnace (IF) is an excellent choice due to its low initial investment and rapid plant construction. However, if you plan to produce high-quality alloy steels in the future, or if local environmental regulations are extremely stringent, we strongly recommend an electric arc furnace (EAF), which offers superior dephosphorization and desulfurization capabilities and yields higher‑value products. We will provide you with a detailed ROI (return on investment) analysis to support your decision-making.
Can SMG GROUP customize an electric arc furnace based on our specific raw materials, such as a mixture of DRI and scrap steel?
We customize the capacity and power configuration of your electric arc furnace (EAF) and ladle furnace (LF) based on the raw material ratios you provide—scrap, DRI, or HBI. This tailored design ensures that your downstream continuous caster achieves optimal energy efficiency and maximized output.
As the investor, if we want to build a new 2-million-ton-per-year blast furnace and its associated sintering plant, can SMG GROUP undertake the full-process EPC general contracting?
