Electric arc furnace
  • Product Details

A submerged arc furnace, also known as an electric arc furnace or resistance furnace, is primarily used to reduce and smelt ores, carbonaceous reducing agents, and fluxes. It mainly produces ferrosilicon, ferromanganese, ferrochrome, ferrotungsten, silicomanganese alloys, and other ferroalloys, serving as an important industrial raw material in the metallurgical industry as well as a chemical feedstock for producing calcium carbide.

The main equipment of a submerged arc furnace includes: furnace transformers, short-circuit networks, electrode systems, the furnace body, water-cooling systems, charging systems, and dust-collection systems.

The smelting process of a submerged arc furnace is as follows:

First, the mixture to be smelted is loaded into the furnace, and air is introduced to heat the mixture. When the internal temperature of the mixture reaches a certain level, it is transformed into tantalum compounds, which are then subjected to electrolysis to liberate the metal, thereby extracting the mineral from the tantalum compounds and achieving the purpose of smelting. The mixture to be smelted and the minerals produced through electrolysis are further heated inside the furnace to continue the smelting process. Once the airflow and temperature settings are properly adjusted, reaching the critical point where radioactive substances are reduced allows obtaining minerals at a lower concentration. After stopping the heating, the smelting product is cooled to room temperature, removed, and stored in a warehouse awaiting further processing.
