General Contracting Project for the 300,000-ton Bar and Wire Rod Production Line of Ethiopian African Steel PLC (ADAMA)
I. Project Basic Information
Client Name: African Steel PLC
Project Location: Adama, Ethiopia
Industry: Steel Rolling
Key Delivery Metric: 300,000 tons/year composite production line for rebar and wire rod
II. Customer Pain Points and Project Background
Adama is an important transportation hub and industrial center in Ethiopia. African Steel PLC aims to leverage the area’s logistical advantages to serve the national building materials market. The customer’s main challenge is to establish, in the shortest possible time, a large-scale modern plant with high capacity (around 300,000 tons), advanced automation, and flexible switching between bar and wire rod production, thereby capitalizing on the infrastructure boom.
III. Our Comprehensive Solution
Agile and Efficient EPC General Contracting Implementation: Drawing on our extensive engineering experience in East Africa, we completed the project’s detailed design. With robust construction coordination and supply chain management capabilities, we ensured that core rolling mills, reheating furnaces, and other heavy equipment arrived at the Adama site on schedule, significantly shortening the client’s plant construction timeline.
Supply of Highly Automated Complete Equipment Sets: We provided industry-leading high-speed wire rod finishing mills and cooling beds as part of complete equipment packages. These systems feature extremely high levels of automation, greatly reducing reliance on labor-intensive manual operations.
On-site Production Operations Management: To address the challenges of ramping up production during the new plant’s startup phase, we dispatched experienced plant-level experts who offered comprehensive production line management and performance optimization services, while also conducting systematic electrical and mechanical maintenance training for local employees.
Reliable Spare Parts Inventory Assurance: Based on actual line load conditions, we tailored a cost-effective spare parts procurement plan for the client, ensuring uninterrupted production without concern.
IV. Customer Value and Quantifiable Results
We successfully delivered a high-quality bar and wire rod production capacity of 300,000 tons per year. The project’s efficient delivery enabled African Steel to swiftly integrate into the local core supply chain, becoming a highly influential building materials supplier across East Africa, while simultaneously boosting industrial support industries and employment opportunities in Adama and surrounding areas.
