Ethio-Shewit General Trading PLC In Ethiopia (AWASH STEEL) 150,000-ton Rebar Production Line EPC Turnkey Project

I. Project Basic Information

Client Name: Ethio-Shewit General Trading PLC In Ethiopia (AWASH STEEL)

Project Location: Mekelle, Ethiopia

Industry: Steel Rolling

Key Delivery Metric: 150,000 tons per year Rebar Production Line

Current Status: Fully delivered and in operation

II. Customer Pain Points and Project Background

In Africa, with the accelerating urbanization process, infrastructure development has created an extremely strong demand for steel reinforcement bars (rebar). From the customer’s perspective, long-term reliance on imported steel not only results in high costs but also depends on shipping schedules, placing significant pressure on cash flow. The customer urgently needed to establish a stable and efficient rebar rolling mill locally to achieve “import substitution.” However, the region faces challenges such as a weak industrial base and a severe shortage of skilled metallurgical professionals.

III. Our Full Lifecycle Service Solution

To help the customer bridge the gap from “zero to one” in establishing the plant, our company provided comprehensive, end-to-end services:

Engineering and EPC Contracting: We started with preliminary feasibility studies and project consulting, thoroughly assessing local power and water resources, and completed both basic and detailed designs. Through meticulous procurement and supply chain management, we successfully shipped materials to the inland city of Mekelle and dispatched expert teams to oversee construction, installation, commissioning, and final startup.

Customized Equipment Supply: We provided a complete set of cost-effective metallurgical equipment. To address fluctuations in the local power grid, we customized the electrical control systems of the equipment to ensure seamless integration with local infrastructure.

Production Operations Management and Talent Development: Addressing the local challenge of having no one who understands steelmaking and rolling, we prioritized transferring operational expertise and training staff as key components of delivery. We not only assisted the customer with initial production line management and performance optimization but also trained the first batch of local rolling mill operators and maintenance technicians.

Spare Parts Management Backup: Considering the lengthy logistics cycles typical of inland African regions, we compiled a comprehensive spare parts inventory for the customer. Leveraging reliable supply chain relationships, we offered cost-effective procurement solutions and emergency supply capabilities, completely alleviating the customer’s fear that “broken equipment cannot be repaired.”

IV. Customer Value and Social Benefits (Quantifiable Outcomes)

Commercial Value: Successfully delivering a high-quality rebar production capacity of 150,000 tons per year, enabling the customer to swiftly capture Ethiopia’s building materials market at highly competitive costs and achieve rapid return on investment (ROI).

Social Value: Following project construction and commissioning, the plant directly created industrial jobs locally and stimulated the growth of upstream and downstream industries such as logistics and scrap steel recycling, significantly boosting the local economy and manufacturing sector.
